Nate Abel Flying Club

Nate Abel Flying Club

Our club is named in memory of Nathan “Nate” Abel, an avid aviator who lost his battle with cancer at age 39.  Nate had a passion for aviation and inspired young people to pursue aviation related careers.  Nate held a Commercial Pilot Certificate with ratings for, Airplanes Single and Multi Engine land, Lighter-Than-Air and Seaplanes and was working to become a Certified Flight Instructor.

Nate worked as a flight attendant for American Airlines and was also a volunteer fireman for the City of Haslet.  Nate was well known in the Dallas/Fort Worth aviation community, particularly around Hicks Airfield and many of Nate’s former co-workers still stay in contact with his family.

We seek to remember Nate's ideals, dreams and passions through the creation of the Nate Abel Flying Club.

Our Planes

"Tweety" our yellow Cessna 150.    In 2016 the AOPA awarded this "Re-imagined" C-150 to our club.  This was quite an honor as our club was just getting started and at the time didn't have an airplane.

As the club work horse, Tweety has seen several first solos and private pilot check rides.

"Blue Bird" our blue and white Cessna 172.  In December 2017 the club had grown to the point where it needed an additional plane.  Blue Bird is a nicely updated C-172 with an IFR instrument panel and has helped club members gain various FAA certificates including, Certified Instrument Flight Instructor.
